Relaxation Tips for You and Your Dog

Relaxation Tips for You and Your Dog

One of the best things about having a dog—outside of the cuddles and affection!—is the fact that having a dog is proven to actually be good for your health. In fact, keeping a furry friend can be beneficial for your mental health. If you’re struggling with stress, anxiety, or/and depression, you and your dog can seek relaxation and peace together. Consider these top relaxation tips for you and your dog to try together—

Spend Time Outdoors

Spending time outdoors is one of the best things you can do for your health. Studies show that there are numerous physical and psychological benefits of spending time outdoors. If you need to relax, getting outside for a walk or even just a peaceful sit in nature can do you well. And the same is true for pups—dogs need to get outside daily for mental stimulation and physical exercise.

Get Some Cuddles In

If you’re feeling stressed out, spending some time petting your dog or cuddling together can be wonderful. You can pair cuddling with listening to some relaxing music, meditating, doing some deep breathing, or watching your favorite show or listening to your favorite podcast. Your dog will love the attention, too.

Get Out with Friends

Dogs can be a great way to meet people, and being social is great for your mental health. Set up a playdate with some of your dog’s besties, or call your own and set up a time for a walk or a dinner or lunch out at a dog-friendly restaurant. Want to meet some new people? Head to a dog park, where you and your pup can both make new friends!

Have Some Quiet Time

Whether you’ve had a hectic day, your dog is feeling overstimulated, or both, spending some quiet time at home without distractions can be a great opportunity to unwind in a safe space. Remember that both humans and pets need quiet time.

A Well-Trained Dog Makes for a More Relaxing Experience

As you think about ways to relax with your dog, consider that for both you and your pup, training can lead to a more relaxing experience. When your dog has structure and understands your expectations, they’ll feel more at ease; similarly, when you can count on your dog to follow your commands, you’ll be less stressed.
