Puppies love to chew. Providing them with items that are acceptable for them to chew on, such as a Nyla bone, will help to decrease the chance that your puppy chews up an important item. Nylabones are perfect for teething puppies and adult pups all the same and come highly recommended by the team here at Happy Pup Manor.
Nylabone is a generic term used for a hard, generally non-edible plastic toy. Nyla bone is also a brand that sells a variety of pup products. There are several different types of Nylabones, and they can come in several different flavors. As suggested by the name, Nylabones are made of nylon – a thermoplastic polymer that can be turned into fabric, toothbrushes, car parts, and plastic film for food.
The Nylabone brand started in 1955, providing dog toys and also becoming the world’s largest pet book publisher. Today, Nylabone sells a variety of products from edible to non-edible chews, dental chews, puppy chews, and toys.
In addition to the Nylabone brand, there are a variety of other brands that make Nylabone-like products such as Benebone, Petstages, and Pet Qwerks.
Nylabones are safe to play with but are not safe to eat – just like chewing on a pen cap isn’t going to hurt you, but chewing it apart and swallowing the pieces just might!
Only the Nylabones that are marketed as edible, such as the Nylabone Healthy Edibles line, are intended to be eaten. If you see that your pup has bitten a chunk of their Nyla bone off, take the chew away immediately. If your pup had ingested any part of the bone, it is recommended to contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.
Nylabone chews come in a wide variety of flavors giving even the pickiest of pups an option they will enjoy. The hard Nylabone chews come in over 40 flavors, including chicken, vanilla milkshake, peanut butter, fresh breath, and sausage with pancakes. With so many flavors to choose from, your pup will never get bored of the same old Nylabone.
The Nylabone brand also carries edible chews that are safe for your pup to eat. They are a healthy edible option to give your pup when training or when you just want to spoil them a little. The edibles, much like the hard Nylabones, come in a variety of flavors for your pup to enjoy. Some of the delicious flavors include beef and veggie, salmon, lamb and apple, and filet mignon.
In addition to the standard and edible chew options, Nylabone also carries dental chews that help promote oral care. These are tastier than your standard dental chews. Your pup can enjoy yummy flavors such as chicken, bacon, and coconut.
If your pup has a penchant for grabbing sticks or wood chips in the yard, Benebone has a great hard chew made from maple wood. This creates much of the same mouthfeel that these wood loving pups, like my pup Stitch, tend to crave.
Keeping your pup’s Nylabone clean is essential. The brand’s official website suggests handwashing with warm, soapy water. We have also had good success with the top rack of the dishwasher… since they keep on chewing the flavor must remain even after a good rinse.
The size of the Nylabone is a great indicator of when to toss the chew. When it becomes small enough to be considered a choking hazard for your pup, you should throw it away. You should also inspect your pup’s Nyla bone regularly for cracks and splintering. If you notice either, it is a good idea to toss that chew and replace it with a brand new one.
The Nylabone company is a great organization that stands behind their products. If you are dissatisfied with your item at all, you can return the Nyla bone for a replacement or refund with an included sales receipt.
Keeping your pup occupied, especially when they are young and full of energy, is essential for your pup’s mental and physical health. Nylabone chews are great to help with destructive chewing, boredom, stress and anxiety, dental health, weight management, and training.
